About the Event
How do we honor a postpartum mother?
Can you imagine if the new mother is welcomed by her community where she is honored and cared for physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually?
Imagine all the women in her community gathering and creating a beautiful ceremony to welcome her back as her new self. She is encouraged to share the fruits of her experiences, so everyone can reap the spiritual benefit of her journey.
Imagine experienced mothers embracing the new mother in so much love and compassion because they know, they have been there too. They know what it takes, what it feels like, the enormous change that happens.
Imagine maidens holding the new mother with so much reverence, awe, and curiosity about this miraculous event of giving birth and becoming mothers.
Imagine a place, a moment to pause, a sacred ceremony. Where the mother is pampered. The baby is taken care of. The new mother can sit in circle and take a moment to herself where she can be seen, REALLY seen, and held in the whole range of emotions and speak her truth without feeling fear of being judged. Instead, all our emotions and experiences are validated and normalized, by the experienced mothers, and also because we have heard it from the mothers that came before us.
“When People return from their quest and are neither recognized for their triumph nor able to share their gifts with their community, they experience isolation and confusion, as if their journey made no sense or does not have value. They feel as though they have lost their path. When a person receives recognition, support, and a place to share her experience, she will emerge on the other side stronger, more resilient, and with a deeper sense of self -everything a new mother needs." - Kimberly Ann Johnson in The Fourth Trimester
Imagine what this would do for the mother? Imagine the healing? Imagine how a new mother would feel to be held in this way.
Imagine what this would do for the community? For the preparation of future mothers? For the reverence that a mother deserves?
